MAN KILLED IN HIT AND RUN CAR WRECK

Date:

On May 15, 2020 Jonathan King, 49, died from a vehicular collision in Charlotte, NC.

Nearly a week earlier on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, Jonathan was involved in a wreck on South Tryon Street.

A two-vehicle crash with injury occurred involving a 2005 Scion and a 2012 Nissan Frontier.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the Scion driven by Jonathan was involved in a crash at the intersection of Clanton Rd at South Blvd where the Scion struck a Toyota while executing a right turn. Jonathan fled from the crash scene and the driver of the Toyota followed.

The Scion pulled into a parking lot on Trade Park Court. Jonathan and the driver of the Toyota had a verbal altercation about the crash, and at some point, the Scion again fled.

The Scion attempted to enter South Tryon Street by making a left turn; however, this exit from Trade Park Court was a right turn only onto southbound lanes. The Scion maneuvered around a raised concrete median island and attempted to travel, but was struck in the driver’s door by the Nissan who was traveling on South Tryon Street.

After the crash, both vehicles came to a final resting position in the lanes of travel on South Tryon Street.

Jonathan was found to be impaired and was charged with Driving While Impaired. The driver of the Toyota remained on the scene and was interviewed by officers. Impairment is a contributing factor for this crash; however, speed and impairment are not factors for the driver of the Nissan.

Medics arrived on the scene and transported the injured to Atrium Health Center. Jonathan was transported with a life-threatening injury.

The driver of the Nissan and a passenger in the Scion were transported with minor injuries. On Friday, May 15, 2020, at 5:35 p.m., Jonathan Linzy King was pronounced deceased at Atrium Health Center Main from injuries sustained in this crash.
