MAN HIT AND KILLED BY CAR ON A SIDEWALK, SUSPECT ARRESTED

Afzal Nadeem, 54, was killed in Charlotte, NC while he was walking on a sidewalk, a car drove on the sidewalk and struck Afzal from behind.

Robert Scott, 52, has been charged in the death of Afzal.

On February 5, 2020, just before 9 a.m., a pedestrian was struck on a sidewalk by a car on South Tryon Street. Medic arrived on the scene and transported the pedestrian to Atrium Health Center Main with life-threatening injuries. 

The driver of the car, Robert Scott, was transported to Atrium Health Center Pineville.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the car was initially stopped on South Tryon Street at West Arrowood Rd. but accelerated from a stop against a red light and crossed West Arrowood Road. The Hyundai then struck a raised curb on the right side and traveled on the sidewalk, with all four wheels, for approximately 250 feet before striking the pedestrian Afzal.

Afzal was walking on the sidewalk with his back to the vehicle.

Afzal was pronounced deceased at Atrium Health Center on February 5, 2020 due to injuries sustained in this crash.

Robert has been arrested and is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.
