MAN DIES IN NORTH CAROLINA PRISON MONTHS BEFORE HIS RELEASE

On April 24 at approximately 10:23 a.m. 24-year-old offender Laderrick Jones died at the Scotland Correctional Institution in Laurinburg, NC. Laderrick died due to cardiac arrest.

Laderrick was found unconscious in a cell and was taken by EMS to an outside medical facility, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Scotland Sheriff’s Department and Department of Public Safety are investigating the incident. An autopsy will be performed on Laderrick to determine if there were any other factors involved in his death.

Laderrick was serving time for possession of a firearm by a felon and attempted robbery in Guilford County on Aug. 29, 2017. His projected release date was this August 22, 2019.
