MAN DIES IN HEAD ON MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

Date:

Melvin Mullis, 43, died in a motor vehicle collision which occurred on West Tyvola Road Charlotte, NC.

Around 9:25 p.m. on June 15, 2020, a motor vehicle collision occurred. A Volvo and a Nissan Pathfinder had been involved in a head-on collision. Medics transported the two occupants of the Nissan to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Volvo identified as Melvin was pronounced deceased on scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates the Nissan Pathfinder was traveling northbound on West Tyvola Road when the Volvo, which was travelling southbound on the same roadway, crossed the double-yellow line and traveled into the path of the Nissan.

The driver of the Nissan attempted to swerve to prevent the collision, but both vehicles collided head-on. The driver of the Nissan was evaluated for sobriety, and no impairment is suspected. Officials say evidence gathered at the scene suggests drug use by the driver of the Volvo may be a contributing factor.

Excessive speed and left-of-center are contributing factors also, cops say.
