On Thursday, July 9, 2020, former Walton Verona High School teacher Mollie Verkamp, 27, was arrested after a year long investigation into an inappropriate sexual relationship that she was having with a 17-year-old student in Walton, Kentucky.
Mollie was reported to detectives in 2019 by the school district after they had learned that she was allegedly sending sexually explicit videos and text messages to one of their
18-year-old students.
During the course of that investigation, Mollie told detectives she had previously taught at a high school other than Walton Verona High for two years and went on to admit that she had sent the same kind of sexually explicit messages to another student. Mollie admitted that she knew the age of the student, who was 17 years old at the time, and that being a teacher at the same high school makes her a person in a position of authority.
Mollie’s relationship with the 17-year-old evolved from sending and receiving messages to allegedly having sex with him at her home in Boone County, KY.
Mollie is charged with one count of Rape 3rd Degree – Class D Felony and one count of Sodomy 3rd Degree – Class D Felony.
