Around 11 p.m. officers received a 911 call at the intersection of Ballantyne Commons Pkwy. and Rea Rd. in reference to a female that was passed out behind the wheel of a white Cadillac Escalade.
When officers arrived they located Maria driving through the parking lot of St. Matthew Catholic church and onto Elm Lane.
Maria was allegedly observed swerving in traffic. A police officer activated his emergency lights to pull Maria over.
Maria is accused of not stopping and continuing to drive 1 mile before pulling over. The officer approached the Cadillac Escalade, Maria is accused of having a strong odor of alcoholic beverages on her breath.
Cops say Maria got out of the vehicle and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Maria was placed in handcuffs and arrested on a DWI charge.
Maria refused to take any breathalyzer tests and she refused to sign any documents once she was at the jail. Maria has been a doctor for several years in the Charlotte area.
