Demartravion Reed was hanging from tree dead at college in Mississippi
Delta State University student Demartravion Reed, 21, was found hanging from a tree on campus on September 15, 2025 in Cleveland, Mississippi. Delta State University is a 100-year-old institution. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

At approximately 7:05 am, the university police were notified of what appeared to be the body of a black male hanging from a tree in central campus near the pickleball course.
The body was that of Demartravion, he was pronounced dead on scene. Representatives from the coroner’s office were dispatched.
Delta State University President Dr. Dan Ennis said at a press conference that there was no evidence of a threat to campus safety following Demartravion’s death. However, the campus was closed on Monday, and several events planned to mark Delta State University’s centennial were also canceled.
University officials requested the assistance of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cleveland Police Department to aid in the investigation. Click here to see more hanging deaths.
The coroner said Demartravion did not suffer any lacerations, contusions, compound fractures, broken bones, or injuries consistent with an assault. No official cause of death has been ruled yet, but there are speculations of suicide.
