Debra Duffy, 55, was arrested on September 12, 2024 charged with larceny by employee. Debra worked at LA East located on Rea Rd Charlotte, NC.
The owner of LA East was advised by her accountant that there was a $20,000 discrepancy between profit and total inventory sold.
The owner then reviewed store camera footage and allegedly saw Debra appear to sell a customer 2 full bags worth of store merchandise, but the receipt with the same time stamp only read as having a singular item.
The owner of LA East began to audit the defendant’s transactions and found that on other occasions Debra allegedly completed a transaction with her friend for $242.92, but the total amount should have been $1,777.15.
Another purchase of $45.05 was paid for, but the actual amount should have totaled $498.72.
The final transaction on another day showed Debra only charged her friend $56.31 for a total that should have been $1,084.84 according to court documents.
Prosecutors say camera footage was obtained for each transaction and Debra’s friend left the store with more merchandise than the receipts showed.
The store owner called police to report that an employee had been stealing from her business LA East by selling merchandise to her friend at a highly discounted rate or not even charging her at all.
Police arrived on scene and arrested Debra, charging her with 3 counts of larceny by employee.
