Tracy Knight shot and killed himself at the Statesville Police Department on September 26, 2021 in Statesville, NC. Tracy was a suspect in a child pornography investigation and had already been arrested a few days prior to the suicide.
Tracy drove to Statesville Police Department Headquarters and fatally shot himself as he sat behind the steering wheel.
Officers observed a vehicle in the parking lot of the police department that appeared to be running with the driver slumped over the steering wheel.
Upon entering the vehicle to make contact with Tracy, officers observed that he was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head that appeared to be self-inflicted. Officers advised dispatch to request EMS to respond to the scene, and upon arrival, Tracy was declared deceased.
An initial investigation found that Tracy died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Tracy had been arrested on September 24, 2021 after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children told police that Tracy had files of child pornography on his digital devices.
A member of the Internet Crimes Against Children task force began investigating this case. During a search of the residence Tracy lived at, there were allegedly numerous items of evidence seized of child pornography.
Tracy was charged with three counts of third-degree child exploitation and was released on a $50,000 bond.
