A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Officer identified as Henry Chapman, 49, was arrested on March 15, 2024 accused of stealing from an arrest suspect in Charlotte, NC.

The encounter occurred on March 14, 2024 during an arrest. A suspect was being arrested, during a search cops found $900 on the suspect.
Officer Chapman is accused of stealing the $900 from the suspect and hiding it, not turning it in to the evidence room or the belongings section at the jail. That is a clear violation of the 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
The suspect complained to jail staff that money was missing. Surprisingly the cops believed the suspect and launched an investigation. It was determined that Officer Henry stole $900 cash from the suspect, according to the investigating police.
Officer Chapman was then arrested on duty and stripped of his uniform. Officer Chapman was charged with embezzlement.
The officer was assigned to the University City Division and was hired in 2009. The police Internal Affairs department is conducting a simultaneous investigation. Officer Chapman is currently on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation.
