23-year-old Douglas Wilson was charged with first-degree murder in the murder of 7-year-old Zakylen Harris in Hickory, NC. Douglas was arrested at a hotel on April 23, 2021.
Douglas was arrested and placed in the Catawba County Detention Facility. Douglas was also charged with possession of marijuana. Zakylen was shot and killed on Wednesday April 21, 2021 on Tate Boulevard Hickory, NC.
Zakylen was in the back seat riding with his mother. His mother accidentally cut off a vehicle, and the vehicle retaliated. A white woman with blonde hair was a passenger in the suspect vehicle and began screaming at Zakylen’s mother. Another person in the suspect vehicle then shot several times at Zakylen.
Zakylen was shot in the neck. The windows in the victim’s vehicle were shot out. The suspect vehicle sped off. Zakylen was rushed to the hospital and was pronounced dead at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Zakylen’s siblings were in the vehicle too, ages 6 and 1, but they were not injured.
