The little girl was dead decomposing in the bath, her mom prostituted and had mental health issues
Sophia Mason, 8, was found dead in her mother’s bathtub in Merced County, CA. In March 2026 her mom Samantha Johnson entered a plea to voluntary manslaughter, two counts of child abuse and two enhancements for causing great bodily injury in connection with Sophia’s death. Samantha was a prostitute with mental health problems. Samantha would often take her daughter Sophia with her to prostitute at different motels. The family even begged social services to revoke custody from Samantha, but no action was taken.
After not seeing Sophia for a while, the immediate family reported Sophia missing in December 2021. The family convinced police to pursue a search warrant on Samantha’s residence.
A warrant was issued by a judge and cops searched Samantha’s home. Within 5 minutes cops found Sophia in the basement bathtub dead and decomposed.
Sophia was dead and rotting for a month. Samantha was arrested on scene. After 4 years of litigation, Samantha pled guilty at trial to voluntary manslaughter, two counts of child abuse, and two enhancements for causing great bodily injury.
Samantha was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months in prison.
