21-year-old Jalen Meggett is the latest suspect arrested after the murder of Zion Garcia, 20. Nyla Burnett, 18, was the first suspect charged with Zion’s murder. Both suspects still face first degree murder, conspiracy to robbery, and robbery charges. Jalen and Nyla were arrested on August 22, 2020, Nyla was arrested first.
Zion was shot on August 21, 2020 at apartments on Firelight Lane Charlotte, NC.
Several people were seen running from the scene at the time of the shooting. An effort was made to catch the people that were running away, but no one was located. Zion was driven to the Valero gas station on Albemarle Road after being shot. An ambulance picked him up at the gas station, but he died moments later at the hospital.
An examination of Zion’s phone led to some of the arrests. More arrests are expected.
