2020 OLYMPIC GAMES IN TOKYO CANCELLED UNTIL 2021 DUE TO CORONAVIRUS

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe along with the International Olympic Committee have agreed to cancel the 2020 Olympics. The Olympic games were scheduled to start in Tokyo on July 24, 2020.

Olympic officials have announced that the Olympics will be postponed until 2021 because of the threat the Coronavirus presents. The large gathering of athletes, coaches, and spectators from around the world during the Olympics could further spread the deadly Coronavirus.

Olympic officials say:

The International Olympic Committee will postpone this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo until 2021 over the global coronavirus pandemic.

Calls for a postponement had become more common, as Canada had already pulled out its athletes from the 2020 Olympics because of the Coronavirus threat. More than 392,000 people worldwide — including more than 46,000 people in the United States have been infected with the Coronavirus.
