Two South Mecklenburg High School students were killed in a vehicular wreck on March 8, 2024. The crash was on Tyvola Road Charlotte, NC. The students killed were Kaia Hodge and Jada Cousins, they were both seniors at the school.The crash was at 7 a.m. The vehicle the students were in was involved in a collision. Both Kaia and Jada died on the scene. The accident led to the road being closed for several hours.
The school principal Marc Angerer stated in a message:
“Seniors Kaia Hodge and Jada Cousins were involved in a fatal car accident Friday morning. We are heartbroken by this loss and grieve with Kaia and Jada’s family and friends.”

A third victim was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The principal went on to say:
“This type of sudden loss is difficult to process, and oftentimes we experience physical, mental and emotional reactions. Please take the time you need to process your feelings and remember to care for and support each other during this difficult time.”
Grief counselors are being made available to students and staff.
