A grandmother and her teen granddaughter are dead after drowning in a lake
49-year-old Stephanie Walker died after pulling 13-year-old Makayla Prather from West Point Lake in Troup County, GA. Stephanie died on June 17, 2022. Makatla died on June 11, 2022.
Stephanie and Makayla were at the lake on June 11, 2022 with other family and friends. Makayla was swimming in the lake when she suddenly went under and did not resurface, possibly by a under current.
Stephanie jumped in to save her granddaughter, but Makayla could not be found.
Stephanie began to go under in the lake also, and she became distressed and was having trouble in the water.
Emergency officials were called and were able to pull Stephanie from the lake, she was not breathing and unresponsive. Stephanie was alive and was taken to the hospital on life support.
Makayla’s dead body was found several hours when a police dive team came to search the lake.
After nearly a week in the hospital, Stephanie died from the incident.
