On July 12 in Campos, California at approximately 8:20 a.m., Border Patrol agents assigned to the checkpoint on Interstate 8 observed a red Honda Accord approach the checkpoint. After an initial questioning of the driver, the agent sent the vehicle to secondary inspection for further examination.

While in secondary, a K-9 performed a sniff of the vehicle, resulting in an alert near the driver side quarter-panel and rear bumper. Agents searched and discovered 31 plastic wrapped bundles concealed inside the gas tank. The bundles contained 41.79 pounds of methamphetamine, which are valued at $96,117.

The driver, a 39-year-old U.S. citizen, was placed under arrest. The narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration. The vehicle was seized by the U.S. Border Patrol.
