The chance of a lifetime happened for several people when they saw $1 million on the side of a highway, but of course they called it in and let the police take the cash.
On May 1, 2020 in Merced County California a highway patrol officer tried to pull over a SUV for traffic violations. The Chevrolet Suburban did not stop.
As the chase commenced, a black Ford Expedition attempted to block the officer, straddling the lanes. The officer was able to out maneuver the Ford Expedition and continued to pursue the Chevrolet Suburban.
At one point during the pursuit, the driver of the Chevrolet Suburban stopped on the right shoulder of the highway and dumped $1 million in cash that was inside two cardboard boxes.
The Ford Expedition changed directions during the pursuit and was not seen or located. Shortly after dropping the boxes on the shoulder, the driver of the Chevrolet Suburban stopped his vehicle and surrendered. The suspect was arrested.
Many people reported the $1 million cash on the highway.
Officers retrieved the cash and estimated it to be $915,000. Officers also discovered walkie talkies in the suspect vehicle and later learned the drivers were using them to communicate during the pursuit. The suspects were traveling to northern California to purchase marijuana.
