WOMAN KILLED IN UPTOWN CHARLOTTE DURING HIT & RUN SUV WRECK, WAS NC A&T ALUMNI

On April 19, 2021 Cornell Watts, 34, was arrested and charged in the fatal hit and run crash that killed Fran Kelly, 36, on South Tryon Street Charlotte, NC in uptown.

Fran was killed on April 11, 2021 shortly after 3:40 a.m. Fran was walking in downtown Charlotte when a Ford Expedition SUV hit her. The SUV sped off and kept going. Fran was located in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Atrium Main Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. 

Fran was an alumni of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University.

On April 15, 2021, detectives located the Ford Expedition involved in this crash in College Park, GA. One day later, with assistance from the College Park Police Department, the SUV was seized and returned to Charlotte to be processed by the police Crime Scene Search.

As a result of information and evidence obtained, Cornell was identified as a suspect and warrants for felony hit & run and reckless driving were obtained for his arrest.
