On August 3, 2021 Pentagon Force Protection Agency Officer George Gonzalez was tragically killed at the Pentagon bus platform at 10:30 a.m. by 27-year-old Austin Lanz near Washington, D.C.
Austin walked up to George from behind and stabbed him to death at the Pentagon transit center without provocation. The suspect then took the officer’s weapon and shot himself.
Other officers moved in to shoot the suspect also. Austin was pronounced dead at the scene. The Pentagon was placed on lockdown during the altercation.
George became a Pentagon police officer on July 22, 2018. He also served in the United States Army during combat in the Iraq War.
