A man beat a gas station employee on West Sugar Creek, and then he beat a female witness
Darryl Leach, 36, was sentenced on November 17, 2021 to 94 months in prison and three years of supervised release for a firearms offense that occured in Charlotte, NC.
On March 5, 2020, Darryl was at a Shell gas station located at 1125 Sugar Creek Road Charlotte, NC. For unknown reasons, Darryl produced a Hi-Point semiautomatic pistol and proceeded to punch the Shell gas station store clerk until the employee fell to the ground.
Darryl was accompanied by a female witness, he and the female witness then fled the scene.
Darryl was arrested on March 14, 2020. When law enforcement apprehended Darryl, they also recovered from his vehicle the firearm he used during the gas station incident.
At the time of Darryl’s arrest, he was with the same female witness who was with him during his encounter with the Shell gas station clerk.
While on bond, Darryl and an accomplice assaulted the female witness, in an attempt to intimidate and induce her to claim that the firearm seized from Darryl belonged to her.
Darryl and his accomplice viciously beat, punched, and put the female witness in a headlock. As a result, the witness sustained extensive injuries and required medical attention.
Court records show that Darryl is a felon and has two prior convictions of robbery with a dangerous weapon, and second degree kidnapping and burglary convictions, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
On December 20, 2020, Darryl pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. As a result of Darryl’s assault on the female witness, U.S. District Judge Robert J. Conrad enhanced Darryl’s sentence for attempting to obstruct justice.
