New May 2022 details show how 29-year-old Demetri Covington died. Demetri was found by his girlfriend unresponsive at apartments on Woolwich St. Charlotte, NC near North Lake Mall on October 6, 2021.
Alcoholic beverages, cannabis, and sleep aids were found at the scene. Paramedics arrived to the apartment and found Demetri pulseless and apneic. Paramedics were able to revive the victim, he was then transported to the hospital.
Demetri tested positive for cocaine metabolites, cannabinoids, and benzodiazepines. During his medical episode, Demetri sustained an anoxic brain injury and cardiac arrest.
Hospital staff gave Demetri naloxone to help in his aid, but his neurologic status didn’t increase and he was pronounced deceased on October 12, 2021.
Medical officials say cocaine toxicity is a presumed cause of death for Demetri.
