New details reveal scene of when 20-year-old Janyah Smallwood was found dead in Charlotte, NC on October 28, 2022. Janyah was found dead at abandoned apartments on Norris Ave.
In the early morning the smell of a dead body led to police being called to the abandoned apartments. Police arrived and found Janyah dead and naked.
Janyah also had other physical injuries as if she had been beaten.
Police and emergency investigators were on scene for most of the day after finding Janyah dead. Janyah’s family says she was raped by someone. Cops believe drugs were involved.
There was a balloon release celebration of life for Janyah
Police refused to launch a homicide investigation, stating that this is just a death investigation.
The official cause of Janyah’s death has not been confirmed yet, her autopsy is not complete. A balloon release celebrating Janyah’s life was on November 4, 2022.
Janyah is a young mother and is originally from Gastonia, NC. Janyah had a 2-year-old daughter.
