Employee at police department accused of stealing cash
Wilson Espinosa, 33, is an employee with The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, he was arrested on September 24, 2026 in Charlotte, NC accused of stealing cash. Charging documents allege Wilson was using police department money orders for his own use.
Wilson was a civilian employee in the CMPD’s Passenger Vehicles for Hire office. The office handles the licensing, inspection, and operation of all passenger vehicles for hire that operate within Charlotte ‘s corporate city limits.
On September 17, 2026 a routine supervisory review revealed inconsistencies in payment receipt documentation submitted by Wilson and the discovery of Wilson allegedly using police money orders for his own personal use.
Further assessment prompted CMPD’s Financial Crimes Unit to launch a criminal investigation. On September 24, 2026 detectives arrested Wilson charging him with one count of embezzlement.
Following the arrest, Wilson was placed on administrative leave without pay. Simultaneously, formal termination proceedings have been initiated.
Wilson was originally hired by the department on March 3, 2025.
