In August 2026 Jamie Briggs, 34, was found guilty of murdering 57-year-old Roscoe Wright and injuring the victim’s son Roscoe Wright Jr. The dead Roscoe was in the United States Army and had retired years ago.
Roscoe was murdered on July 9, 2020 at an apartment complex on Coliseum Dr. Charlotte, NC. Roscoe Wright Sr. and Roscoe Wright Jr. were standing just outside their apartment.
Jamie passed by them on his way to his mailbox and said, “What’s up?” while holding a gun with an extended clip in his right hand. When he got closer to the Wrights, they had a brief physical altercation.
During the altercation, the younger Wright punched Jamie in the back of the head causing him to fall. As he fell, Jamie shot himself in the leg.
Jamie got up and shot Wright Sr. twice, once in the head and once in the upper chest. Then, as he walked away, Jamie shot the younger Wright in the leg.
Roscoe Wright Sr. was pronounced deceased at the scene while his son was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Jamie was arrested on the same day of the shooting charged with murder.
6 years later at trial Jamie was found guilty of second degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He was sentenced to 538-680 months in prison.
