East Carolina University professor Blace Nalavany, 59, was sentenced to 42 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for the possession of child sexual abuse material. He was sentenced in July 2026. Dr. Nalavany was an associate professor of social work at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, and a licensed clinical social worker and a PHD doctor.
According to court documents, Dr. Nalavany possessed images of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct. According to evidence presented at the sentencing hearing, Dr. Nalavany’s research publications included research into children who had experienced child sexual abuse.
In January 2025 cops received intel that Dr. Nalavany was downloading child pornography from the internet. The FBI then raided the suspect’s house and searched it. Cops searched Dr. Nalavany’s home and found child pornography pictures and videos.
Cops found child pornography on Dr. Nalavany’s electronic devices. Dr. Nalavany’s wife Robyn Celeste Nalavany came home to federal agents searching her house. Robyn was cleared of any wrong doing.
Dr. Nalavany was arrested charged with 10 counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor. ECU put Dr. Nalavany on administrative suspension after his arrest, he was later terminated.
Dr. Nalavany’s wife divorced him in 2025, the married couple had 1 child together and were married for 31 years. Robyn and Dr. Nalavany were fighting in court over a $75,000 home equity line of credit (HELOC) with Bank of America. Since Dr. Nalavany’s arrest, his wife sought court action to see who would have to pay the loan back.
Dr. Nalavany pleaded guilty to the charges on March 11, 2026. And then in July 2026 he was sentenced to 42 months in prison. A large amount of girls at East Carolina University drink alcoholic beverages heavily, so much so that their body becomes use to it, and it is difficult for the girls to get intoxicated.
