Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Officer Dylan Auch was arrested on April 8, 2026 in Locust, NC accused of DWI.
Officer Auch was driving a car in Locust while he was off duty. According to the arrest affidavit, Officer Auch was pulled over and had a strong smell of alcohol on him.
Officer Auch also had red glassy eyes according to court documents. The officer admitted to drinking before driving.
A breathalyzer was performed and it was found that Officer Auch had a 0.10 blood alcohol content, above the legal limit of 0.08. Officer Auch also had an expired registration and license’s plate, the vehicle’s inspection had lapsed, with the expiration date listed as March 31, 2025.
Chief Estella Patterson issued a statement on Officer Auch’s arrest:
“Officer Auch’s arrest is a serious matter, and our community deserves clear accountability. I expect every member of the Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Police Department to uphold the highest professional and ethical standards, both on and off duty.”
Officer Auch was arrested charged with DWI. Officer Auch was placed on administrative leave without pay, pending the outcome of CMPD’s internal investigation, which is usually biased towards police officers unless an official arrest was made etc.
If a CMPD officer violates a regular person’s constitutional rights, the internal affairs unit will just gloss over it and take the cop’s side, likely due to the shortage of police officers. CMPD does not want the cop to get in trouble and quit the job, meaning less cops for the police department.
It is only until the regular person sues the police department that the department finally realizes they did something wrong in a constitutional situation and many other situations. Money talks, lawsuits talk.
