Another Super Bowl Sunday death has occurred in Charlotte

Tavaris Crouch, 48, was killed on Super Bowl Sunday February 8, 2026 in Charlotte, NC. Tavaris was killed on Central Ave. Super Bowl deaths are common in Charlotte.

At 8 p.m. Tavaris was walking on Central Avenue when he was struck by a Chevrolet Express Van. Tavaris was knocked to the ground on his head, he was pronounced deceased on scene. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

Speed does not appear to be a contributing factor for this collision. The driver of the van was not arrested. It is not known if Tavaris was in the street, at a crosswalk or the sidewalk. Tavaris has had a number of cocaine and drug arrests throughout the years.
