Juneteenth holiday celebrations often brings violence to Charlotte area, a murder occurred this year

Juneteenth weekend celebrates black freedom in the United States, marking the date all slaves were freed after the Union drastically beat the Confederate in the Civil War, effectively ending slavery. But some racist slave owners were stubborn and didn’t free slaves, so Union soldiers were sent to all plantations and forced the slave owners to free the slaves. It took time to get the word out to all plantations, around 1868 in the teens of June, all slaves were freed as the message was relayed to all plantations.
So on June 22, 2025 at 12:30 a.m., officers responded to a shots fired call on North Tryon Street. The investigation revealed that one individual had sustained a gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
