26-year-old Rontavious Clark carjacked a man in Charlotte, NC and then went on a robbery spree in his newly stolen vehicle. But hours later Rontavious ended up dead after crashing the stolen vehicle. 23-year-old Danneil Hughes participated in the criminal activity with Rontavious, only Danneil lived to tell about it to a judge, because he is now in jail facing several charges.
The now dead Rontavious has been arrested 17 times in the last three years.
On Thursday, October 25, 2018, at 3:03 a.m., Rontavious and Danneil robbed a man on E. 8th St. after the victim gave the two a ride. The victim stated that the men asked for a ride because it was cold, when the victim let the men in they pointed a gun demanding his Lexus vehicle. The suspects fled the scene in the stolen 2004 Lexus SUV.
At 3:44 a.m., Rontavious and Danneil robbed the 7-Eleven, located at 5343 Monroe Road. The clerk stated that the suspects entered the store and brandished a weapon demanding money from the business. Upon receiving the money, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.
At 4:05 a.m., Rontavious and Danneil robbed the Circle K, located at 9100 Monroe Road. The clerk told responding officers that a suspect entered the store and robbed him at gunpoint. After obtaining money the suspect left the scene in a vehicle.
During the investigations, officers determined that the two suspects from the E. 8th Street robbery were responsible for the 7-Eleven and Circle K robberies. Detectives received additional information that the suspects also robbed a 7-Eleven on W. John Street in Matthews, NC.
At approximately 5:00 a.m., Armed Robbery Unit detectives were notified that the stolen Lexus SUV was involved in a motor vehicle collision in Lancaster, South Carolina. The occupants of the vehicle matched the description of the armed robbery suspects. Rontavious was the driver of the SUV and was pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger, who was identified as Danneil was transported to a medical facility for treatment of the injuries he sustained in the crash.
Danneil was arrested following his medical treatment.
