9-YEAR-OLD BOY WITH AUTISM FOUND DEAD IN SWIMMING POOL

Date:

The body of a nonverbal 9-year-old boy with autism was found in a swimming pool at an Inglewood, CA park hours after he was reported missing at the same park on September 8, 2019.

Zavire Dion Portis was last seen just before 4 p.m. when he walked away from his mother’s car, which was parked at Edward Vincent Jr. Park.

The mother of the victim says Zavire wandered off as she was drinking water at the park. When the mother returned, Zavire was missing. After the mother frantically called 911 a helicopter and a bloodhound were brought in to help look for Zavire.

At 10 p.m. a group of neighborhood children spotted a body at the bottom of the park’s swimming pool. The pool was blocked by a gate, which officers had to kick open to access the pool.

It is unclear how Zavire got through the gate.
