2 CONVICTED SEX OFFENDERS ARRESTED IN DESSERT NEAR UNITED STATES BORDER

Border Patrol agents arrested two convicted sex offenders in Southern Arizona in and around Tuscon, Arizona.

On December 10, 2019 at approximately 11 p.m., agents apprehended 42-year-old Juan Olarte-Cruz after he illegally entered the United States south of Sells, AZ. Criminal background checks revealed Olarte-Cruz was convicted of second-degree rape of a minor in Nassau County, New York, in 2008.

Juan was sentenced to 3 years in prison before being deported to Mexico in 2010.

On December 11, 2019 agents apprehended 35-year-old Alejandro Chavelo-Miranda after he illegally crossed the border through the desert near Arivaca, AZ.

Criminal background checks revealed Alejandro was convicted of sexual assault in Marion County, Oregon in 2017. Alejandro was sentenced to 14 months in jail before being deported to Mexico in 2018.

Alejandro and Juan are both Mexican nationals illegally present in the United States, they face federal prosecution for immigration violations.
