ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS FOUND HIDING IN TRUNK OF CAR DURING SMUGGLING ATTEMPT

Date:

Border Patrol agents at a checkpoint in Yuma, Arizona arrested a United States citizen attempting to smuggle two Mexican nationals on August 4, 2020.

Just after midnight, a Border Patrol K-9 team referred a Toyota Corolla to secondary inspection after the canine alerted to an odor of humans. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed two undocumented Mexican nationals hiding in the trunk. The two illegal immigrants stated they entered the United States the prior day along an area of unfinished construction of new Border Wall near El Cajon, California.

The male driver, a 21-year-old U.S. citizen, was booked for immigration smuggling. The two Mexican nationals were arrested for improper entry and were expeditiously removed from the country.

Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents working at immigration checkpoints continue to effectively combat smuggling organizations attempting to illegally transport people and contraband through southwestern Arizona and California.
