On April 14, 2021 an autopsy report was released that revealed Brittany Smith, 28, was strangled to death with a cell phone charger and then placed in a suitcase in the Neuse River in Raleigh, NC.
Brittany’s murder was in February 2021 when she was six months pregnant, the baby died too. Thomas Johnson, 37, and Emmalei Trevathan, 24, were both charged with murder, murder of an unborn child, and concealment of a body.
Brittany had been living in a tent, and she was eventually reported missing. A gray, cloth-wrapped cellphone charger was still wrapped around Brittany’s neck when her body was found inside a suitcase in the Neuse River. Sadly, a blood test detected fentanyl and cocaine in Brittany’s system at the time of her death while she was pregnant. Cocaine is a bad drug.
About a day later Thomas and Emmalei were arrested during a traffic stop. The motive behind Brittany’s murder is unknown.
