SERIAL ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER HIGH SPEED CHASE THAT BEGAN IN CHARLOTTE

Date:

Kenneth Massey, 28, is charged with committing a series of armed robberies.

From May 20, 2019 through May 22, 2019, five robberies in Charlotte, NC were committed by the same suspect who fled the scene in a red 4 door vehicle after each incident. During the course of their investigation, the detectives developed Probable Cause to believe Kenneth Massey committed each of these robberies and warrants were obtained for his arrest.

The warrants were issued for four counts of Armed Robbery and one count of Attempted Armed Robbery. The vehicle he was using during the robberies was identified as a red Ford Fusion.

On 5/26/2019 at approximately 6:41 p.m., the Charlotte Meck Police Department Real Time Crime Center received a License Plate Reader hit on the Ford Fusion that had been used in these robberies. The vehicle was located on Beatties Ford Road near I-85.

A Metro Division Patrol officer responded to the area, found the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.  The suspect refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit began at 6:49 p.m. Additional patrol officers and the Helicopter Unit responded to assist.

The pursuit continued onto I-85 southbound, through Gaston County and into Cherokee County, South Carolina. The suspect exited off of the Interstate onto U.S. 29 south, but got back onto I-85 a short time later.

Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol joined the pursuit on I-85 in Gaffney around 7:37 p.m. and stop sticks were used on the suspect vehicle to disable its tires.

The suspect and sole occupant of the vehicle, Kenneth Massey, then stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody.  He was turned over to the custody of the Cherokee County Sherriff’s Office.

Detectives will work to extradite Massey back to Charlotte to face charges.
