Chantelle Patterson was killed in a major vehicle collision on August 21, 2021 on North Tryon Street Charlotte, NC. 29-year-old Laregis McCoy was arrested and charged with felony death by motor vehicle.
The crash was at 2:21 a.m. Laregis was driving a vehicle that had allegedly just been involved in a hit and run. Authorities say Laregis was fleeing from the first crash location at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop at a red light at the North Tryon intersection with Matheson Ave.
The speeding vehicle struck a Lexus vehicle on the passenger’s side. The Lexus had a green light and the right-of-way. The driver of the Lexus was rushed to Atrium Health Main Hospital with serious injuries. This was allegedly the second collision for Laregis in one night.
The front seat passenger of the Lexus identified as Chantelle Patterson died from the collision within minutes.
Laregis was located lying on the ground outside of the vehicle.
After Laregis was released from the hospital, he was charged with felony death by motor vehicle, felony serious injury, and aggressive driving.
