Field Training Officer Josh Baker was shot during a traffic stop with Nika Holbert, 31, on March 12, 2021. Nika was killed by the officer during the encounter and it was all caught on video.
The shooting was in Nashville, Tennessee. Officer Baker pulled the black vehicle Nika was driving over for a traffic stop due to the vehicle looking like that of a known felons’.
During the traffic stop, the officer identified that the known felon was not in the vehicle. Eventually Nika’s purse was searched by the officer and drugs were found. The officer attempted to handcuff Nika but she refused and started to run away.
The officer tasered Nika several times as she tried to flee in the black vehicle, the officer sees a gun in the vehicle and yells, “put the gun down.” Several shots are then exchanged. Nika is hit by a bullet and then drives off. The officer was shot in the stomach right underneath his bullet proof vest.
Nika crashed on a road not far away and died.
The officer remains in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
