Officer William F. Evans was killed in the line of duty at the United States Capitol building in Washington, D.C. on April 2, 2021. A male suspect rammed a vehicle into two U.S. Capitol officers. Both officers were injured, however, Officer Evans eventually died.
Just after 1 p.m. a man driving a blue sedan rammed his vehicle into a security barricade at the U.S. Capitol, striking 2 capitol police officers, one of the officers was identified as Officer Evans. The U.S. Capitol was immediately placed on lock down. The man exited the vehicle with a knife and ran towards officers. A officer drew their duty weapon and fired at the suspect, fatally hitting him.
The suspect however didn’t die on scene, paramedics transported the suspect to the hospital and he died from his injuries.
Both officers that were hit by the suspect’s car were transported by paramedics to the hospital. One officer is being treated at the hospital. Officer Evans later died.
Acting U.S. Capitol Police Chief Yogananda Pittman said this:
“It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Officer William Evans this afternoon from injuries he sustained following an attack at the North Barricade by a lone assailant. Officer Evans had been a member of the United States Capitol Police for 18 years. He began his USCP service on March 7, 2003, and was a member of the Capitol Division’s First Responder’s Unit. Please keep Officer Evans and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”
