TWO PEOPLE KILLED AFTER HIT AND RUN CRASH, SUSPECT ARRESTED

24-year-old Katelyn Abernathy has been arrested after a fatal hit-and-run crash in Gastonia, NC early on Sunday morning February 2, 2020.

Katelyn is accused of hitting two pedestrians near the QuikTrip on East Long Avenue when she drove up the sidewalk, officials say. Katelyn allegedly failed to remain at the scene of the accident and collision.

The collision left two dead, the two are Charles Love, 61, and Keytiada Cooke, 31.

Charles died on the scene and Keytiada died at the hospital.

Katelyn was eventually arrested and charged with two counts of death by motor vehicle, felony hit/run serious injury/death, failure to maintain lane control, DWI and registration plate/card expired.

Katelyn is being held under a $250,000 secured bond.
