Jail is a horrible place. Other than the ridiculous food, one of the biggest complaints about jail are the people that come in there smelling rather badly. Some inmates smell so badly that they are required to shower.
But on the other hand, sometimes people that are too cute for jail end up there, hence the photos we published to this story. Jail takes pretty ladies out of their comfort zone real fast.
Charlotte Alerts interviewed a current Mecklenburg County Jail Detention Officer on condition of anonymity and he had this to say, “A few of the female inmates actually look good, I often wonder what they did to get here.”
Once someone is arrested they are taken to the jail central location in center city for processing. That is where they are finger printed, identified, and get their infamous mugshots taken. Upon that, males are generally kept at jail central, although in some cases males can be taken to the men’s section of jail north, which is near Statesville Rd.
But females are taken to jail north if they can’t make bail. Once at jail north the ladies are given a burgundy jump suit, maxi pads, a hygeine kit, soap, and a bed roll.
From there they go to orientation pod where inmates are taught the rules and procedures of jail. After orientation, inmates are assigned to a particular pod based on jail population and the severity of the inmate’s charges.
Breakfast is at 5-6 in the morning, lunch is at 11-noon, and dinner is at 4-5 in the afternoon.
The food is horrible and the portions are small, that is why commissary is important. But, some inmates don’t have money for commissary, so they just steal out of other inmates’ cells.
Behavior like that can get an inmate thrown in the hole.
