TEENS IN WAXHAW LEAD POLICE ON CHASE AND THEN CRASH INTO BUILDING

Date:

On September 25, 2020 around 1:18 a.m, several teens were involved in a high speed chase in the wealthy area of Waxhaw, NC.

A silver sedan was driving without its headlights on. Waxhaw police attempted to make a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop. The officer initiated a pursuit of the vehicle on Providence Rd.

The suspect car lost control and the car crashed into the Bead Merchant store at 102 E. South Main St. Several of the occupants exited the car and were immediately taken into custody. In total, 5 juvenile males were detained and taken to the police department.

The silver sedan was stolen earlier in the week from Concord, N.C. A handgun was also recovered from the floorboard of the driver’s side that was also stolen. The driver was 14 years of age. He was later served a secure custody order and taken to a juvenile facility in Concord, NC pending a hearing in juvenile court.

All of the occupants were taken for medical evaluation for any possible injuries as a couple of them had small bruises and abrasions from broken glass. All but the driver were later released to the custody of parents.

The released juveniles may face charges through the juvenile system pending further investigation.
