ST. AUGUSTINE’S UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT DIES FROM CORONAVIRUS

St. Augustine’s University President Dr. Irving McPhail died Thursday night October 15, 2020. Irving was infected with the Coronavirus. St. Augustine’s University is a historically black college & university (HBCU).

Irving tested positive for the Coronavirus in October 2020.

A letter went out via university email on Oct. 12 under the letterhead of the St. Augustine’s Board of Trustees that said Irving was recovering from COVID-19. The university says Irving did not contract the Coronavirus on the campus of St. Augustine’s University.

Irving was a strong proponent of face coverings and social distancing. He was the school’s 12th president and had just got the job in July 2020.

Dr. Maria A. Lumpkin will serve as Interim President, effective immediately.
