Omega fraternity members Isaiah Smith, Kyle Thurman and Caleb McCray were arrested on March 11, 2025 after Southern University student Caleb Wilson, 20, died after being punched in the chest trying to join the Omega fraternity. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
Caleb was a band member at Southern University and an engineering student, he died on February 26, 2025 in Baton Rouge, LA.
Caleb was pledging to become a member of the Omega frat. Caleb and other pledgees were at a warehouse being hazed. Several Omega frat members were going through a weird physical intensive ritual where Caleb and other prospective members were being punched in the chest with boxing gloves.
Caleb was punched several times by frat members and he collapsed. Caleb had a seizure and lost control of his bodily functions, urinating on himself. Caleb was knocked unconscious.
The Omega members changed Caleb’s clothes into basketball shorts and drove him to the hospital.
It was then that the Omega members lied to hospital staff and said that Caleb passed out while playing basketball at a park. Click here to see other fraternity news.
Caleb died at the hospital. Cops got involved and determined that Caleb was assaulted at a warehouse. Caleb was not at a park.
Isaiah Smith, Kyle Thurman and Caleb McCray were all arrested charged with criminal hazing. One of the men was even charged with manslaughter.
Southern University launched an internal investigation following the student’s death.
