SEVERAL SHOTS FIRED AT DAYCARE AS MAN PICKS UP HIS CHILD

Date:

On September 18, 2020, at approximately 2:45 p.m. a shooting at a daycare broke out located in the 3900 block of West Arrowood Road Charlotte, NC. Officers arrived after 911 received calls about someone shooting at this location.

At about 2:15 p.m., Isaiah Kersey, 20, arrived at the daycare, along with two male associates, to pick up Mr. Kersey’s juvenile son.

Police say Mr. Kersey was not on the list of approved individuals who were allowed to pick-up this child, so the staff did not let him do so and called the child’s mother. A short time later, the child’s mother arrived at the business, accompanied by three other adult males.

The two groups of individuals began arguing in the daycare parking lot, which escalated into a physical confrontation involving all seven people. During this fight two people began shooting. The daycare facility immediately went into lock down and called 911.

The children present at the daycare were inside the building at the time and were not injured. It does not appear that the children were aware of events going on outside; however, as a precaution, referrals have been made so that clinicians with the Child Development Community Policing program can follow-up with the families of these children and offer them services to address any psychological trauma resulting from this incident.

Bullets struck two unoccupied vehicles parked in the parking lot of this business during the shootout. Isaiah Kersey was arrested and charged with simple affray and resist/obstruct/delay.
