A Juneteenth BBQ turned into a homicide and a 9 person nonagon shooting
35-year-old Laporshia Janae Gray Cobb was murdered during a Juneteenth weekend cookout celebration on June 21, 2025 in Anderson, SC. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
Hundreds of people were gathered during the Juneteenth event. A fight began and escalated into a shooting. Laporshia was shot in the stomach and was pronounced dead on the scene.
9 people were shot and they were taken in for emergency care. Another victim had to be flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Shootings involving 9 people being shot are seldom, but do occur.
Laporshia had 3 kids. Juneteenth was designated as a federal holiday in the USA by President Joe Biden. Juneteenth celebrates the freedom of black people in America from being slaves.
Yet Juneteenth gatherings and parties tend to turn violent. In fact a man in Charlotte was murdered on Juneteenth weekend.
