MOTHER AND HER BOYFRIEND ARRESTED IN DEATH OF 10-MONTH-OLD BABY

Date:

On October 14, 2019 a mother and her boyfriend were arrested, charged in connection to the death of a 10-month-old baby.

The child’s mother, Dennisa Vega-Rivera, 27, has been charged with second-degree cruelty to children.

Jahlin Corey, 27, was arrested and charged with two counts of felony murder, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of aggravated battery. Jahlin and Dennisa are a couple.

At 4:40 a.m. on October 14 the baby was having difficulty breathing at 1405 Beaver Ruin Road Norcross, GA. The baby was transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta but later died.

Hospital staff notified detectives after observing injuries to the baby’s body. A autopsy revealed the baby had suffered severe injuries, including a fractured skull, fractured ribs and intestinal bleeding.

Officials say Jahlin and Dennisa gave stories inconsistent with the findings of detectives when confronted with autopsy results.

A search warrant was obtained for their home. Jahlin and Dennisa were then arrested and are being held at Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
