MAN SHOT IN HEAD BY COPS DURING SHOOT OUT ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND

33-year-old Matthew Buford was shot in the head by police during a wild shootout on Labor Day weekend 2022 September 4th. The shooting was in Gastonia, NC. 

Around noon police responded to a call about an abandoned vehicle on private property. The car was towed away. Nearby cops found another vehicle parked off the road near a wooded area, a semi automatic gun was found in that vehicle.

The gun was confiscated by police for safe keeping. Cops then got a 911 call about a man holding a gun to another man’s head.

The suspect ran on foot when police arrived and they gave chase. The chase led to a wooded area where several shots were instantly fired at the officers.

Police shot back and Matthew was shot in the head by police.

Matthew was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Matthew is now charged with four counts of attempted first degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, second degree trespassing, assault by pointing a gun, assault on a law enforcement K9, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
