Karim Abdul Akbar, 62, was killed in a hit and run motor vehicle collision while he was riding a bicycle in Charlotte, NC on February 8, 2020. The time was after dark around 9:08 p.m.
Officers with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search were called to the scene to conduct an investigation. The preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle was traveling on The Plaza when it struck a bicyclist who was crossing the road.
The bicyclist and bike were thrown off the roadway and came to rest in the grass near the sidewalk. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop or notify emergency services of this crash. Medics arrived on the scene and pronounced the bicyclist Karim deceased.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit is actively searching for the involved vehicle.
