32-year-old Adelbert Redo allegedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while officers in Charlotte, NC were in the process of serving several arrest warrants for Adelbert.
On January 27, 2020, in the early morning officers received notice of Adelbert’s location via the electronic monitor he was court-ordered to wear for his pending murder charge.
Officers were making contact with Adelbert near Pine Street when he exited a residence and refused to comply with the commands given to him by officers on scene. Before Adelbert could be taken into custody, he brandished a firearm and discharged it at himself, officials say.
Adelbert was pronounced deceased on scene.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this case. The Internal Affairs Bureau is also conducting a separate but parallel investigation to ensure the officers’ actions were consistent with policies and procedures.
