Barney Harris is the head coach of the basketball and track teams at Union Academy Charter School in Monroe, NC. Barney died on April 10, 2021 under unknown circumstances. He was also a Spanish teacher at the high school.
The school says Barney will be greatly missed by his players, students, and colleagues. Students and staff at Union Academy Charter School were directed to wear clothes showing school spirit to celebrate Barney’s life on Monday, April 12, 2021. The school is asking that all keep his family in thoughts and prayers.
Union Academy Charter School released this statement:
“The Union Academy community is mourning the unexpected loss of teacher and coach Barney Harris. Union Academy students, staff and families are asked to wear Union Academy Spirit Wear on Monday, April 12 to celebrate the life of Coach Barney Harris, whose motto “All Love…No Fear,” will be forever a part of who we are as a school. Love each other and live each day to the fullest.”
